Reimagined bride's globe: the art of miniature scenography

The marriage dome is somewhat like a magical casket from the 19th century: a glass dome placed on a wooden or sometimes brass base, inside which a miniature scene celebrates a couple's marriage. Originally, these domes were designed to preserve and showcase precious wedding souvenirs: the bridal bouquet, flower crown, small symbolic objects... A very French tradition, which allowed families to keep a tangible trace of that unique day, often rich in emotions and symbols.

At that time, the dome was not just a decorative object; it was a true testament: some pieces could date back to the mid-19th century, with meticulous compositions blending dried flowers, ribbons, sometimes even small photos or items evoking daily life and the values of the era. Brides and their families placed their attentions there with almost obsessive care, as these domes were as much objects of curiosity as elements of memory.

Today, the marriage dome has found new life.

It can be used in three ways:
  • Preserve the original decoration, if it is still intact and full of history, for a vintage and authentic touch.

  • Create a new presentation, adapting the dome to your tastes and interior, for a bespoke and unique effect.

  • Present the empty dome, as a piece in its own right, an art object that plays with light, height, and the transparency of the glass.

In this article, we will explore all these possibilities for a revamped marriage dome. At La Bulle, we love both enhancing domes with their original ornaments and creating personalized scenographies, true to your desires and your universe. Because after all, every dome tells a story, and we enjoy helping our clients stage it.

Revamped marriage dome: what are the possibilities?

At La Bulle, we have a simple conviction: for marriage domes, there are no limits to creativity. Each project is unique, and each dome can become a personalized work of art, whether it retains the delicacy of its original ornaments or transforms into a completely new scenography.

Over the years, we have received the most varied requests. Some clients prefer classic presentations, with a wooden base and objects carefully displayed under the glass dome. Others have much more original ideas.

Regardless, the creation phase is essential. It is a time when we take the time to discuss with the client to understand exactly what they want: the final look, the materials, the heights, and even the desired effect in an interior. At La Bulle, we appreciate this proximity: it's as if each dome becomes a joint project, where curiosity and creativity meet to bring something truly unique to life.

Choosing the marriage dome

Choosing the right marriage dome is a crucial moment in creating your miniature scenography. It's not just about selecting a pretty glass object: you need to consider the size, shape, type of base, and the height and width of the dome so that the whole perfectly highlights what you want to display. A dome that is too small risks crushing the composition, while a dome that is too large could disperse attention and lose the intimate effect you are looking for.

Here are some criteria to consider:

  • Dome size: small, medium, or large depending on the object or composition you wish to display.

  • Base type: classic wood, elegant velvet, vintage brass... each material brings a unique touch to your presentation.

  • Dome shape: round, oval, square, depending on the desired effect and the space available in your interior.

  • Glass dimensions: width and height so that the object or composition is neither too cramped nor lost in the volume.

➜ There is a wide variety of domes, from the most classic to the most original, and it is essential to take the time to choose the one that will perfectly match your decor, your collector's items, or the mini-world you wish to create.

Some ideas for revamped marriage domes

As we mentioned earlier, the possibilities offered by a marriage dome are practically endless.

To inspire you, here are some creation ideas:

Ideas

Type of marriage dome

Detailed description

Classic object presentation

Round glass dome, wooden base, size adapted to the object

Perfect for showcasing a collector's item. For example, a miniature car like an Aston Martin DB5 can find its place on a small wooden base, with the glass protecting and enhancing the detail of the piece.

Dried flower presentation

Large and tall dome, wooden or brass base

Ideal for preserving a dried flower bouquet or creating an artistic floral composition. The glass preserves the color and texture of the flowers while bringing an elegant and natural effect to an interior.

Creation of a miniature world

Large and low dome, solid base

Allows for the creation of a miniature universe, such as a Christmas crèche or a magical setting. Small objects, figurines, or accessories can be integrated to tell a story in miniature.

Homage or commemorative dome

Round or oval dome, wooden or contemporary base, antique glass

Perfect for highlighting a symbolic object, such as medals, horse hooves, or family souvenirs, with a brass plaque indicating the origin or history of the object.

Mini botanical scenography

Medium dome, wooden or brass base, interior with moss and small dried plants

To recreate a small miniature garden, with flowers, leaves, and branches, giving a poetic and lively effect, perfect for lovers of natural decoration.

Curiosity cabinet

Large and tall dome

To display a collection of eclectic objects: seashells, small sculptures, ancient curiosities, playing with height and density to create a captivating effect.

Revamped marriage domes for our clients

At La Bulle, we have been sharing our passion for marriage domes with our clients for years. And we can confirm: each project is a unique adventure. We have the ability to create some pieces directly in our workshop. However, when you have a very precise idea or a more complex artistic project, we also work with a partner artist to bring your vision to life.

Whether it's to highlight a precious object or to create a tailor-made artistic scenography, we adapt our skills for each dome. Communication with the client remains essential: it's about understanding your desires, your objects, the effect you want to achieve, and the story you want to tell.

In this section, we will present some of our creations to you.

And for your information, we also rent out our marriage domes for events.

Marriage dome in homage to the horse Ace Impact

For Haras de Beaumont, we created two domes highlighting the hooves of the horse Ace Impact, named European Horse of the Year in 2023 and winner of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. This project, conceived as a prestigious gift, combines tradition and modernity: custom mounting, wooden base, antique glass, engraved brass plate. Every detail was studied to make this dome an elegant and unique tribute to this exceptional horse.

Marriage domes for the Accor Hotel Lille

For the Accor Hotel Lille, we worked on a project that perfectly illustrates our ability to combine artistic and technical creation. The owner wanted to encapsulate mini-cars reflecting his personal passion through an architectural agency.

The realization took a year, including prototype design, 3D modeling, and execution.

This project was an opportunity to mobilize all our expertise:

  • R&D and prototyping

  • Digital vision and 3D printing

  • Custom mounting

  • Packaging and delivery

➜ The result: a set of unique domes that tell the story and passion of the owner, while bringing an artistic and decorative touch to the hotel.
