The sea coconut or coco de mer is a fascinating object. Contrary to what one might think, it is not a nut, but the largest seed in the plant kingdom, that of the sea coconut tree. The sea coconut is specific to the island of Praslin, making it the emblem of the Seychelles.

Poached for its supposed aphrodisiac virtues or for its original appearance, it is now forbidden to bring it back from travels in order to prevent its disappearance.
