Custom-made base made for a series of Concretions by Miguel Chevalier
"The beauty of things exists in the mind of the one who contemplates them."
David Hume, Scottish philosopher, 1771-1776
A great thinker of the Age of Enlightenment, for David Hume, the very essence of Art in all its diversity and in all its forms lies in its ability to be shown. Paintings, sculptures, stage performances, visual arts, and so many others, could not be known before being appreciated if they remained hidden from our eyes. In working on plinth solutions with various museums, La Bulle is fully aware of the importance of choosing an appropriate support in the scenography of a collection. Contemporary artist Miguel Chevalier has done us the honor of entrusting us with the plinth of some of his creations.
Let's take a closer look at his work with the technical requirements that his staging imposes.
When virtual art bursts into the spotlight
in reality
A pioneering artist, Miguel Chevalier has been using computers in his artistic approach since the late 1970s. At the forefront of digital art, his virtual creations are exhibited in various forms. Whether presented through screens or projections, Miguel Chevalier's installations invite the viewer to interact with the work, thanks to technical processes diverted from their original purpose.
Essential works of Miguel
Knight
To better understand the challenges involved in the success of an exhibition, here are three unique creations by the artist. Each, while computer-generated, takes on its own unique form. Whether it remains virtual or exists in reality, it requires a medium that makes it accessible and human.
Oscillations (2021)
This installation is entirely representative of the artist's work. Created by computer, the fantastical landscapes broadcast on this giant 9m x 3m LED screen, follow one another and blend into one another to music by composer Michel Redolfi. We see the technical complexity that can be required to stage such a work. Here, there are no classic supports, no bases, no frames, but a modern system essential to the creation to live and be seen.
Ultra Nature, 2008
Installed in 2008 in the Sao Paulo metro during the Emoçaô Art.ficial 4.0 exhibition, Ultra nature, 2008 is an autonomous and interactive computer performance. In addition to the pictorial beauty of this work in homage to Monet, this virtual plant wall is composed of seeds that will germinate, grow and then fade and reproduce this cycle eternally. Interactive, presence sensors allow the plants populating this garden to follow the movements of visitors.
Janus, 2013
Also created on a computer, this 1m x 1m x 1m sculpture was entirely shaped using a 3D printer. If its format seems more familiar to the works exhibited in so-called classic museums, it is because Miguel Chevalier has freed himself this time from the prism of screens to bring this sculpture to life, in silica and resin.
Custom-made bases for works of art
contemporary
Digital artist Miguel Chevalier trusted us and allowed La Bulle to offer him custom-made plinth solutions for some of his works.
The concretions we have placed on bases are computer-generated by random autonomous systems and then take shape through 3D printing. They are then covered with phosphorescent paint in the dark.
We also have the opportunity to participate in the plinth of various works present in different galleries around the world.
Whatever the format, we strive to offer the artist or gallery owner the best tailor-made solution to showcase the works entrusted to us.

The Bubble at the exhibition
Digital Abysses, 2018
Combining digital performance with 10 virtual works on giant screens, computer-generated random concretions and a cabinet of curiosities exhibiting no fewer than forty new creations, this exhibition took Miguel Chevalier's dreamlike, abysmal works from the banks of the Garonne to South Korea.
