How to base a sculpture, a mask, a plate? The custom base

Why choose a custom base?

Base, plinth, and pedestal in our art world are terms we hear very often. But are we able to define them well, to explain them to you properly? Perhaps not.
The base, the pedestal of statues, has existed since time immemorial; it allowed the display of monumental works intended for the glory and prestige of emperors and other kings of France. Even in ancient times, sculptures were presented on bases.
But what about sculptures of a more modest size, intended for interior display? How do you base a heavy sculpture to display it in a living room or art gallery?
The work is more subtle than for large monumental sculptures.
Indeed, many parameters must be taken into account.
Choosing a custom-made base for your collectibles means giving them undeniable added value and showing them off to their best advantage.
In a word, to sublimate them.

By evolving into plinths and the creation of bases for works of art and objects, we have chosen to offer you the widest possible range of displays and plinth solutions. Our goal is to democratize plinths. To ensure that any object can be presented at its true value. And very quickly, we discovered that there are objects of monetary value, but also objects of emotional value.

A multitude of choices of custom bases

In order to always offer you more choice, we adapt easily to your desires and constraints.
When you enter our workshop shop, many of you ask us, for example, how can I present my coco fesse? Or I have a collection of small art objects, how can I showcase it?
The work begins like this: we start with your request and offer you a solution adapted to your budget and your desires, whatever the object you wish to present (with the exception of antique ivories).
A discussion begins, you make your choice of plexiglass base, steel or brass, the choice of your patina, dark, raw.
Most of the time, it takes about two weeks to complete a custom-made base, unless you opt for the instant base service. In this case, and under certain conditions, your base can be completed within a day.

with your custom base

Our boutique workshop is a veritable treasure trove for art lovers. The flea market scene is ideal for discovery and bargain hunting. We stock a variety of materials in our store that we use to create custom-made bases. These secondhand materials are the basis for our on-the-spot base-making service.
A small steel or brass rod to which we add a small plexiglass base and your base is almost finished. A tiny hole in the object (not mandatory if you don't want it, we always find solutions) and your little sculpted head has found its base. Leave the day with your little base.
This service is offered on weekends whenever possible on small items.

The instant plinth service is part of an eco-responsible approach to recycling materials.

A plinth workshop in the heart of the Paris Saint-Ouen flea market

The custom-made steel base allows you to present your objects in an elegant and discreet manner. This plinth solution is not flashy and allows you to appreciate your object with ease.
This will allow you to appreciate the power of a custom-made base. That is, the before-and-after base.
Before being placed on the base, the object is often placed directly on the pedestal table or the fireplace. After being placed on the base, it rises in height and reveals all its beauty.
Very quickly, our shop transformed into a real base-making workshop where you are welcome.
Come and discover our different solutions from the simplest steel base with black patina to the most sophisticated brass base with chrome patina, including the wooden base, the most natural solution.

The first time you decide to have an object mounted on a base is a big step.

In general, we have said to ourselves several times, "Hey, I should do something for this object which is magnificent, but not at all highlighted" we know that we can do better, but we don't know where to start.
This is where we come in to give you some advice.

The wooden base, the most natural solution

Your decision is made, you decide to go to our workshop boutique at 23 bis rue Paul Bert in Saint-Ouen.
You preferably came with your object and you have no idea how to present it.
This is the best address for plinths in Paris.
Indeed, we will support you in your decision-making.

Often for an initial base we offer custom steel bases.
This is a first step into the world of plinths.
Indeed, steel plinths offer the best value for money when it comes to custom plinths.
Its production is not too difficult, as steel is a relatively easy material to use and work with.
The custom-made steel base is ideal for displaying coconut buttocks, African masks or plates.
If you are looking for a natural base finish, we recommend the wooden base.
The wooden base can be a simple square of raw wood in the center of which a hole is drilled and a rod inserted, in order to be able to construct the base assembly.
The choice of wood may vary from one base to another. Oak or beech, for example. Occasionally, we have batches of more exotic wood, but this cannot be made to order.

The wooden base can also be worked in its raw form by adding coves.
A kind of small decorative staircase at the base of the plinth.
These coves can be made directly in our workshop; do not hesitate to ask us to personalize your bases.

And finally, the best wooden base is the laminated wooden base.
We work with a textile craftsman who creates exclusive and exceptional pieces.
Franck C covers the wooden base with old fabrics or vintage wallpapers.
The result is offbeat and does not leave you indifferent.

Granted, this choice of base is rather bold, but it's a very pleasing price point. But you haven't seen everything.

We recommend custom-made raw wooden bases, with oge-shaped or marouflaged edges, for sculptures in volume and movement, such as equestrian sculptures, angels and cherubs for example.

Think brass not just for your table lamps

The brass base is known for holding your glass globe lamps, but in the world of bases, it is mostly the most luxurious solution.
The brass base is very pleasant to work with, because its formula is malleable.
This base solution allows you to create curves with a nice shape, for example.
In addition, the work on the patinas is very interesting.
It is all the more interesting to work with the patinas of this type of base as their shapes allow for all sorts of fantasies.

The brass base can be described as a luxury base, its price is in line with the result, especially when you decide to cover it with Chrome.

We recommend the custom-made brass base for exceptional pieces, even if all your works ultimately deserve a brass base.

Custom-made plexiglass base

And finally, here's our last option: the custom-made plexiglass base.
By using this material, you truly pay homage to your object, because the plexiglass disappears completely in favor of the object due to its transparency.
Most of the time, plexiglass squares are used as bases on which a rod is inserted.
The mixture of a plexiglass block and a brass rod goes very well together.

Alongside our custom-made plexiglass bases, we have developed a complete range of plexiglass displays to showcase all your collectibles, from masks to teaspoons.
