Creation of a custom brass stand for a white turtle shell

The challenge of mounting an art object for a boat
The brass stand: the haute couture of custom stands
Custom mounting requests can be very surprising, and that's what makes our job so charming. So when a large architectural firm like Liaigre asks us to create custom stands for their art objects, we don't hesitate for a minute. Over time, Liaigre has specialized in creating high-quality yacht interiors. For this project, we were asked to produce a very high-quality custom stand for a white turtle shell. It should be noted that we carry out this type of project in accordance with the law, upon presentation of a valid CITES certificate.
No art object will be mounted or even stored in our workshops without this precious document.

The demanding nature of Liaigre's clients instinctively led us to propose a brass stand.
Indeed, brass is, in the hierarchy of custom stands, the most prestigious. The malleability of brass allows for an infinite possibility of original shapes, with curved stand feet and a high-quality finish. For this extraordinary project, even the choice of patination was very bold.
The request was to create a chrome-silver patina.

Before achieving this result, several design stages were necessary. Indeed, the support rod was curved for maximum aesthetics, knowing that the object would be visible in profile in its final interior setting.

Here is a view of this custom stand with the curvature of the central support rod.
From this shot, it's clear that the stand wasn't made from a single block, but is an assembly of several distinct elements.

A meticulous, multi-stage mounting process.
As we just mentioned, this custom stand is a multi-stage realization. Thus, in our workshops in Île de France, each piece had to be created separately, then assembled, ensuring everything fit together perfectly. Each part of this custom stand is a technical feat in itself.
Indeed, each element had to be designed and shaped with the ultimate constraint that the object's stability be perfect since this custom stand would be placed on a boat. This constraint forced us to put holes in all four corners of the base to add retaining screws.
A total of four pieces were assembled like a puzzle.

A custom chrome patina.
The pieces that make up this custom stand were all created and shaped from brass. This material, in its natural state, is slightly golden in color and tends to oxidize when exposed to air, turning rather green.
Finding a suitable patina is therefore essential to stabilize the final color of the stand.
This patina can be a simple layer of varnish or, as is the case here, a more sophisticated process requiring immersion baths in the material.
For the creation of this chrome finish, we called upon the company Renova Chrome located in Saint-Ouen, just a stone's throw from the Puces de Paris Saint-Ouen.
One of the advantages of working near the Puces de Saint-Ouen is the proximity to a network of qualified artisans, such as picture restorers, for example.
