Requests for custom bases can be very surprising, and that's what makes our profession so appealing. So when a major architectural firm like Liaigre asked us to create custom bases for their works of art, we didn't hesitate for a second. Over time, Liaigre has specialized in creating high-quality yacht interior designs. For this project, we were asked to create a very high-quality custom base for a white turtle shell. It should be noted that we carry out this type of project in accordance with the law upon presentation of a valid CITES permit.

The demands of Liaigre's customers instinctively led us to offer them a brass base.
Indeed, brass is the most prestigious of all custom-made plinths. Brass's malleability allows for infinitely original shapes. Curved plinth legs, high-quality finish. For this extraordinary project, even the choice of patina was very bold.
The request was to create a silver-colored chrome patina.

Before achieving this result, several design steps had to be taken. The support rod was curved for maximum aesthetics, knowing that the object would be visible from the side in its final interior design.

Careful base work in several stages.
As we just mentioned, this custom-made base is a multi-step project. In our workshops in the Île-de-France region, we had to create each piece separately, then assemble them to ensure everything fit together. Each part of this custom-made base is a technical feat in itself.
Indeed, it was necessary to design and shape each element with the ultimate constraint that the stability of the object be perfect since this custom base will be placed on a boat. This constraint forced us to put holes in the four corners of the base in order to add retaining screws.
There are four pieces in total that were assembled like a puzzle.

A custom chrome patina.
The pieces that make up this custom-made base were all created and crafted from brass. This material is naturally slightly golden in color and tends to oxidize upon contact with air, turning green.
Finding a suitable patina is therefore essential in order to stabilize the final color of the base.
This patina can be a simple layer of varnish or, as is the case here, a more sophisticated work requiring immersion baths in the material.
To create this chrome paint, we called on the company Renova Chrome, located in Saint-Ouen, a stone's throw from the Puces de Paris Saint-Ouen.
The advantage of working at the Puces de Saint-Ouen is, among other things, the proximity to a network of qualified craftsmen, such as painting restorers, for example.
Finding a suitable patina is therefore essential in order to stabilize the final color of the base.
This patina can be a simple layer of varnish or, as is the case here, a more sophisticated work requiring immersion baths in the material.
