A little bit of history concerning the Napoleon III style

The Napoleon III style placed great emphasis on ornamentation and decoration. Techniques from the 17th and 18th centuries, which had since been abandoned, were revived: Boulle marquetry and Martin varnish were used again. Mother-of-pearl inlay decorations and porcelain plaques were fashionable. The exuberance of gilded bronze ornamentation characterized the Napoleon III style.
